Process makes perfection... A little closer, but perfect isn't a finish line. While the UX process can be flexible and ever changing depending on the project, goal, or a million other factors, my process will always begin with understanding. That is - understanding the people on the other end of the experience first, surveying the landscape of competition in [insert arena] to develop a holistic view of where the product will stand in its digital space - side by side with competing products. Then turning it over, and again observing the space it takes in the hands of our user and the opportunities to connect outside of the screen. All ultimately under the North Star that are the business goals.
My creative curiosity for the “What’s possible...” buries me in deep into the pages of books - fiction and non. I’m energized by collaboration, great design, and social justice - if the three can be combined into a trifecta - this is nirvana. I shamelessly acknowledge vinyl cover art taught me everything I know, that nothing sounds better than needle on wax, and I believe no good thing is made without alil' music.
Design is bigger than deliverables. And the best ideas go bump in the night. My best work happens in the wee hours so I taught myself to lucid dream and chase down inspiration. As a production manager I laughed with George Clinton and watched Jazzy Jeff mix live.
As a creative of numerous intersecting identities and experiences, my personal mandate as a Product designer is to work ever towards ethical design that is ultimately thoughtful, accessible, and inclusive.
I met my idols, through design I can meet real needs.
I'm a Chicago born / Los Angeles based Designer bringing a background in Visual Design along for the ride, with nearly 10 years of experience complimented by social media strategy and experiential marketing. From end to end, I aim to craft truly satisfying, intuitive, and empowering experiences on both sides of the screen and within products that find themselves at the cornerstones of daily life. As a graphic designer, it was the persistent strategy behind my projects that made my transition to UX a seamless one.
Driven by the incredibly powerful, people-centered knowledge of what’s natural, what’s obvious, and what’s good in bespoke projects, sized to fit business needs. The adventure that is freelancing has allowed me the opportunity to speak visually to the times, while working in a multitude of environments & teams, on an expanse of products across industries. I design for PEOPLE. "Users" is too sterile - the stuff of lab rats, white coats, and spaces void of lived experiences.
